Many of our beloved Christmas traditions involve setting up a tree and lights, dining with family and friends, spoiling loved ones, and dangling the notorious mistletoe from our ceilings and doorways. The origins of the fun and quirky mistletoe stem from ancient Greek mythology. The Greeks thought of mistletoe as a symbol of fertility and honored its “life giving” power during many festivals. Ancient Greeks first used this sweet green during marriage ceremonies due to its powers. However, in the eighteenth century mistletoe was adapted by the Europeans and used to celebrate Christmas every December and thus brought this tradition to the America’s with them.

We know what happens when two people step foot under mistletoe, but have you ever been self conscious of your breath and needed to freshen up? Maybe it is time to start adapting oil pulling. Oil pulling is when you takes half tablespoon or so of coconut oil and swish the oil in your mouth for about 10 minutes each day. Why oil pull and swish for 10 minutes? People who oil pull and have followed this ancient tradition have found that they have much better oral health and have reduced symptoms and eliminated most migraines, headaches, asthma, stained teeth and of course bad breath. Even swishing for 5 minutes a day is better than none at all.
